Man United legend Wayne Rooney tells Marcus Rashford to ‘f***ing get his head out of his a***’

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged former team-mate Marcus Rashford to focus on becoming the club’s greatest goalscorer.

The 24-year-old has scored 93 goals in 297 appearances for the Red Devils since making his debut in 2015 but he has become increasingly disillusioned at Old Trafford.

But Rooney wants the England forward to stay at Manchester United and focus on beating his all-time record of 253 goals.

Speaking at a black-tie event in Manchester on Saturday, Rooney told The Sun: ‘To get the record and be United’s highest goal scorer is f***ing massive.

‘What I hope is that Marcus Rashford f***ing gets his head out of his a*** and goes and breaks that record. He is a Manchester lad.’

Rashford has fallen out of favour in recent months at Old Trafford, starting just three league matches since the turn of the year.

He has only scored five goals in all competitions this term – some way down on the 21 that he managed in 2020-21.

His lack of game time has led to him considering his future at the club, and he was dealt a further blow when Gareth Southgate left him out of his latest England squad.

Southgate subsequently vowed to meet with Rashford to try to help the 24-year-old to rediscover his best form. 

With the World Cup just eight months away, Rashford may decide that a change of scenery is needed to get his career back on track. 

His current deal at United is due to expire in 2023, although the club do have the option to extend his contract by a further year.
